Grammar Translation Method – Essay The Grammar Translation Method, also known simply as the Translation Method, is one of the oldest and most traditional ways of teaching a foreign language. Originally used for teaching Latin and Greek in European schools, it later became the main method used by the British when they introduced English education in India. The Grammar Translation Method has several important characteristics: 1. Grammar is central – Rules of grammar are taught directly, and students memorise them. 2. Translation plays a major role – Translating from English to the mother tongue helps students understand grammar structures. 3.
